Background
"If they could have gotten their hands on God, they would have killed Him too," Sierra Leoneans say about the rebels. The civil war in Sierra Leone, West Africa, (1991-2001) was labeled "the cruelest in Africa's recent history". Characterized by destruction - of property, but more so of human lives and values. Tens of thousands civilians died, hundreds of thousands were raped, burnt, tortured, enslaved, mutilated.
The Sierra Leonean amputees, their limbs cut off by rebels, became this war's heartrending icons.
Pep Bonet, a photojournalist who was born in 1974 in Mallorca and lives today in Spain and Amsterdam, calls his black-and-white project "Faith in Chaos," a project about hope. He photographed the people of Sierra Leone rebuilding their lives and young people trying to improve their existence in one of the poorest countries of the world.

Ottime immagini. Ho visitato il sito ed ho visto molte immagini
dello stesso livello espressivo: certamente fotografie dure ma che
rappresentano delle realtà a noi lontane che purtroppo esistono! Ho molto
apprezzato il modo di rappresentare quelle realtà, un modo di fotografare
che ti porta dentro la notizia (immagine), un modo coraggioso di
approcciarsi a quelle vite così deturpate dagli eventi, senza
compiacimenti di sorta, anzi con una diretta partecipazioni a quelle
sventure. Le tue fotografie mi hanno ricordato le immagini di guerra di
Capa, il suo modo di "entrare dentro" la realtà che lo circondava. Il tuo
modo di fotografare più moderno del citato Capa, riesce a mantenere sempre
viva l'attenzione su quanto rappresentato in una realtà reportagistica
mondiale che ha già fotografato tutto e tutto ci ha già fatto vedere.
